Late October and early November in the southeast of England: short days, overcast skies, rust-colored leaves and towns that light up early. In London, a walk through St James's Park and, in the evening, along the Thames by London Bridge. Above London Bridge station rises The Shard, at 310 m the tallest building in the United Kingdom. Its top floors give the night view over the city.

In Kent, the White Cliffs of Dover are chalk cliffs up to about 110 m high, above the port and the strait that separates England from France, roughly 33 km wide at its narrowest. A path follows the clifftop out to South Foreland Lighthouse, a Victorian lighthouse on the edge of the cliff.

In the evening, Canterbury. The Westgate, a 14th-century medieval gatehouse, marks the entrance to the old town. The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the place where Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170. Together with St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Under a gray sky, Leeds Castle, near Maidstone. The castle dates back to the 12th century and is built on islands in a lake formed by the River Len.

Back in London, South Kensington is home to the Natural History Museum, opened in 1881. In the evening, the Sky Garden, the garden at the top of 20 Fenchurch Street, gives another view of the city from above.
