Keramoti
The dunes at Keramoti, the mainland port for the Thassos ferry, with the island outlined on the horizon.
This series gathers six years of beach holidays in Greece, from 2020 to 2026, always between July and early September, and reads as a guide to three regions: the island of Thassos in the northern Aegean, Corfu in the Ionian Sea, and the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki. The photos are in chronological order, so Thassos comes back several times, in different years and at slightly different points of the summer.
Thassos
Thassos over several years: a wooded islet offshore, cliffs hollowed by sea caves, the cove of Salonikios and the capital Limenas seen from above at sunset.
Limenaria
The beach at Limenaria, on the island's southwest coast, with stone slabs smoothed by the sea and a rocky cliff.
Chrysi Ammoudia
Chrysi Ammoudia, the golden sand, a long beach on the east coast of Thassos with surf and wooded hills.
Psili Ammos
The wide bay of Psili Ammos, with fine sand and calm water as evening falls.
The way to Thassos leads through Keramoti, the mainland port where the ferry leaves for the island; from its dunes, Thassos is already on the horizon. The island is almost round, largely covered in pine forest and known since antiquity for its white marble. Its shore offers very different beaches: the fine sand and surf of Chrysi Ammoudia, the smooth rocks of Limenaria, the wide bay of Psili Ammos, cliffs hollowed by sea caves seen from the water, and long sunsets on the south coast below the village of Theologos.
Theologos
Sunsets on the island's south coast below the village of Theologos, the sky glowing over the silhouettes of pines.
Pelekas
Pelekas, on the west coast of Corfu, where the sun sets into the Ionian Sea.
Agios Matthaios
A long sandy beach near Agios Matthaios, in the southwest of Corfu.
The Old Fortress
The Old Fortress of Corfu town on its rocky headland, with the church of Saint George built like a Greek temple.
The west coast
Tall limestone cliffs on the west coast of Corfu, seen from the water, with small beaches at their base.
In 2022 the series moves to Corfu. Pelekas, on the west coast, is the place for sunsets, and near Agios Matthaios a long sandy beach stretches along the shore. In Corfu town, whose old center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, the Old Fortress, strengthened by the Venetians on a rocky headland, has at its foot the church of Saint George, built in the shape of a Greek temple. Seen from a boat, the west coast near Paleokastritsa is a wall of white and gray limestone with small beaches at its base.
Corfu
More of Corfu's west coast, with white and gray limestone walls dropping straight into the sea.
Paleokastritsa
The coast near Paleokastritsa seen from a boat: rock walls, pines and deep blue water.
Hanioti
Clear water and a fine pebble beach at Hanioti, on the east coast of the Kassandra peninsula.
Nea Fokaia
Sunset over the Thermaic Gulf at Nea Fokaia, on the west coast of Kassandra.
In 2025 the chapters shift to Kassandra, the westernmost of Halkidiki's three peninsulas. On its west coast, at Nea Fokaia and Agia Paraskevi, the sun sets straight into the Thermaic Gulf over calm water, while on the east coast, at Kryopigi and Afytos, the villages sit on a high bank above turquoise water. Hanioti and the cape at the southwestern tip of the peninsula round out the tour.
Chalkidiki
The sun sinks into the sea on the west coast of Halkidiki, its light running across the water to the shore.
Kryopigi
Kryopigi, a village on a high bank, with the turquoise water of the gulf seen through the trees.
Agia Paraskevi
Sunset from the cliffs at Agia Paraskevi, in the southwest of the Kassandra peninsula.
Akrotirio Kassandras
The sun touches the sea at the cape on the southwestern tip of Kassandra.
Afytos
Afytos, an old village on a high bank above the gulf, with its beach and turquoise water seen from above.

Thassos returns in 2024, with the long beach and dry meadows near Limenaria, and in 2026, when photos and short drone clips show the island from above: the cove of Salonikios, with clear water over a rocky bottom and pines running down to the sand, the south coast with small islands offshore, the turquoise water of Rosogkremos, the capital Limenas at sunset and, on the west coast, the sunsets and blue hour at Paralia Dasilio near Prinos.
Salonikios
A beach and rocky shore in the south of Thassos, with turquoise water and pines reaching almost to the sea.
